Santa Domenica Talao 

The mountain village of Santa Domenica Talao is one of the most enchanting historic villages in northern Calabria. Situated on the Calabrian west coast, the village has a traditional Italian Centro Storico, which is set into the hillside of the Pollino National Park. With stunning views of both mountain and sea, the village has been featured on the American lifestyle show House Hunters International. 

With its maze of narrow streets, a main piazza and meeting point for the locals, Santa Domenica Talao is a step back in time. The main piazza is the usual meeting place for many of the locals on a Sunday morning and typically the men play cards while the women take a stroll around the town. The locals are extremely friendly and neighbourly and the village has a great atmosphere. 

The village itself has all the character and charm you would expect to find in this part of Italy and is supported by quaint bars, restaurants and other local amenities. There is a regular bus service running daily to Scalea and the coast, only 8km away. 

Calabria

The main towns are (from north to south): Praia a mare, Scalea, Diamante, Belvedere Marittimo, Cetraro, Paola and Amantea. The entire coastline has a stunning backdrop of mountain ranges which form the national parks in this part of Calabria (Pollino and Sila). 

The entire area has very little industry and the air is clean and pollution free and the people of Calabria live to a grand old age (one of the best in Europe). The other advantage of being on the west coast is the fantastic sunsets over the sea.
